Curriculum overview

The curriculum at St. Peters Junior is all the planned activities that we organise in order to promote learning and personal growth and development, in the context of Christian belief and practice. It includes not only the formal requirements of the National Curriculum, but also a range of visits and visitors that are planned to enrich the experience of the children. It also includes the 'hidden curriculum' - or what the children learn from the way they are treated and expected to behave. We aim to teach children how to grow into positive, responsible people, who can work and co-operate with others while developing knowledge.

We aim to foster a lifelong love of learning, through adopting a cross-curricular approach to learning. It is planned and evaluated by the teaching and support staff on a termly basis to ensure that all the skills are covered, progression is in place across the school and the children’s needs and interests are followed.

We value the way in which all children are unique, and our curriculum promotes respect for the views of each individual child, as well as for people of all cultures. We respect each child in our school for who they are, and we treat them with fairness and honesty. We value and foster the spiritual and moral development of each person, as well as their intellectual and physical growth.

Children are also part of the School council, Worship council and Eco council and Year 6 children have additional responsibilities such as school ambassadors and digital leaders. Through Personal, Social and Health and Citizenship Education (PSHCE) we aim to develop each child’s self-esteem, confidence and independence. We promote British values in school.
